Limerick was in a celebratory mood once more as another long wait ended with the arrival of the historic sailing vessel Ilen, which first sailed Shannon waters some 92 years ago.
ILEN EXHIBITION - SEPTEMBER 14 —NOVEMBER 11
The Ilen exhibition at the Hunt Museum explores the journey of the AK Ilen. Mapping the magnificent journey undertaken, the narrative opens at the boats birth in Baltimore, Cork. In 1926, tracing its formative years as a trading vessel in the Falkland Islands to its eventual return home some 70 years later. The exhibition develops to incorporate the process that is involved in the re-building and eventual sailing school serving communities of interest, now based in Limerick docks.
