PIETA HOUSE - Launch fo Darkness Into Light Limerick 2013 at the Clarion Hotel, Limerick on April 3rd 2013. Filmed by Krzysztof Luszczki. Darkness into Light takes place on May11th at 4am starting at Thomond Park. See www.Pieta.ie for more info.
Thousands of people will walk at dawn in Limerick on May 11 for Pieta House's annual fundraiser Darkeness Into Light in memory of those that have died through suicide. Pieta House, the suicide and self-harm crisis centre is calling on people from all over the country to bring friends with them to walk, jog or run 5km to raise funds and increase awareness about suicide and self-harm. Following a record turnout last year in Limerick, Dublin, Galway, Cork, Clare and Kerry, this year's event will now take place in 20 locations around the country. At 4am on May 11, thousands of people will gather in darkness across Ireland for the solemn event as dawn breaks. "Suicide is a growing problem in Ireland. Most of us have been affected by suicide in some way or another and 'Darkness into Light' is an ideal way for people to come together and show their support," Nora Conway, the Manager of Pieta House, Limerick tells me. Pieta House provides a professional, face to face, free of charge therapeutic service for people in the acute stages of suicidal distress. A unique experience for participants, Darkness into Light is also the most vital component of Pieta House's fundraising calendar. Pieta House will open four new crisis centres this year in counties Cork, Galway, Tipperary and Kerry and will next month launch a major new nationwide campaign aimed at reducing the rate of male suicide. Now in its 5th year and getting bigger and better every year, it is starting at Thomond Park and there will be some small changes to the start and finish -- so keep an eye out on our map for updates!
